Fair Fresh Start is how your standing on TempStars works — built on what you actually do, explained clearly, and designed so there's always a way back. Here's the full picture.
The idea behind it
TempStars works because offices can count on the professionals they book, and because you can count on a fair shake in return. Fair Fresh Start is the system that keeps that balance — and the name says what it's for.
Three ideas sit at the heart of it:
- It's based on what you actually do. Your standing reflects your real track record — the shifts you complete and the experiences offices have working with you — not a guess or an opinion.
- It's always explained. You'll never be left wondering. You can see where you stand and why, any time.
- There's always a path back. If your standing slips, the system is built to help you rebuild it — not to lock you out.
So if you ever see a limit or a required step, read it as a fork in the road with a clear way forward, not a dead end.
Where to check: My Stats
My Stats is your home base for everything in this guide. Whenever you have a question about your standing, that's the first place to look.
My Stats shows you:
- Your current standing and what it means
- How you're doing on reliability and on feedback
- Why any limits are in place, if there are any
- Any course you've been asked to complete, and where to start it
- Whether you're in a re-entry or hold period, and what comes next
Good to know: If anything in this guide applies to your account, My Stats will spell out your specific situation in plain language. Start there before reaching out — it answers most questions on its own.
Starting out: building your history
When you're brand new to temping, you're in a building-history period. For your first handful of completed temp shifts, you're getting a feel for the platform and building a track record — so your reliability and feedback measures aren't fully in play yet.
Once you've completed five temp shifts, Fair Fresh Start's two measures begin to guide your standing in full. Think of those first five shifts as your on-ramp.
In My Stats: While you're still building history, My Stats will say so, and some standing details may not appear yet. That's expected — it isn't a problem with your account.
The two things that matter
Once Fair Fresh Start is fully in play, your standing comes down to two simple, separate questions:
Reliability — Do you book, keep, and complete the shifts you commit to? Offices plan their day around you, so showing up as promised is the foundation.
Feedback — How do offices feel about working with you after a shift? Positive experiences build your standing; recurring concerns can affect it.
These two are measured independently. You can be doing great on one and have room to grow on the other. That matters, because it means any support you're offered is matched to the specific area — you won't be asked to fix something that isn't the issue.
Plain and simple: You won't see raw numbers or scores. Your standing is described in everyday language — where you are, what it means, and what (if anything) to do next.
Your standing
When reliability and feedback are both in good shape, you're in good standing — with full access to browse shifts, submit offers, and use the Job Board as normal. Good standing comes in three levels:
Active (good standing) — You've built enough history and your reliability and feedback are solid. Everything works normally.
Pro (higher standing) — You consistently perform at a stronger level. Staying here means keeping up your reliability, feedback, and activity over time — including completing at least one shift in the past year.
Elite (top standing) — Your reliability and feedback are both excellent across a strong number of completed and rated shifts. This is the top tier.
Where you land depends on your track record, and your standing can move up as you keep doing great work.
When access is limited
If reliability or feedback dips, the first step is usually a limited-access period rather than anything more serious. You can keep temping — you'll just see a narrower set of shifts for a while as you steady things out.
Depending on whether the limit is about reliability, feedback, or both, that can mean things like:
- Seeing shifts closer to home rather than far away
- Booking shifts that are coming up soon rather than far in advance
- Holding fewer confirmed shifts at one time
What you can still do: You can keep browsing and booking the shifts that fit your current limits, and you can still use the Job Board.
What to do: Check My Stats for your exact limits and the reason. Keep completing shifts as committed, and your standing rebuilds over time.
Seeing fewer shifts? If your list of available shifts looks shorter than usual, that's often a limited-access period doing exactly what it's meant to — not a glitch. My Stats will confirm whether a limit is in place.
When a course is required
If reliability or feedback drops further, you may be asked to complete a short recovery course before continuing with new temping. This is the heart of Fair Fresh Start: a clear, do-able step that puts you back on track.
New temping is paused until you finish the assigned course. Which course you get depends on the area:
- If reliability is the concern, you'll get a reliability course.
- If feedback is the concern, you'll get a feedback course.
- If both need attention, you'll get both — and you'll need to finish both to move on.
What you can still do: You keep full access to your account, My Stats, your courses, your history, support, and any Job Board listings you've already applied to.
What to do: Open Courses (or follow the link in My Stats), complete the assigned course, and you'll move into restricted re-entry.
Completed it but still blocked? If you were assigned two courses, both have to be finished before access reopens. If you've completed everything assigned and still see a hold after a short wait, reach out to support so we can take a look.
Restricted re-entry: welcome back
Finishing your course moves you into restricted re-entry — a welcome-back period where access returns gradually while you rebuild your standing.
You're back to temping, with the same kinds of temporary limits described earlier (shorter distances, nearer dates, or fewer shifts at once), matched to the area you recovered in. The Job Board is open to you.
One thing to expect: Instant booking stays off during this period — bookings come through the normal flow so your limits are respected. As you keep doing good work, those limits ease and your standing rebuilds.
On a break: extra room for new grads
This one is specifically a helping hand for recent graduates. If you graduated very recently and a feedback course didn't fully turn things around, instead of moving straight to a review, we may place your account on a break for a while.
Your account is on a short hold. New bookings and new Job Board applications are paused for now — and My Stats will show the date the hold lifts.
What you can still do: You keep access to your account, My Stats, your history, support, and any Job Board listings you've already applied to.
What happens after: When the hold lifts, you return to restricted re-entry — not straight to full access — so you can rebuild within those gentle limits. This break is offered as one-time extra support for new grads.
Under review
In the rare case that things don't improve after a recovery path, an account may move to under review. We want to be straight with you about what this means.
New marketplace access is paused while your account is reviewed. This isn't decided lightly, and it looks at the actual facts on your account.
What you can still do: You keep access to your account, your history, your invoices, and any Job Board listings you've already applied to — and you can always contact support.
What to do: If you believe something on your account is incorrect, reach out. Support can look into the details with you and explain the next steps for your specific situation.
An honest note: A review doesn't have a guaranteed outcome. What we can promise is that it's based on real facts, that you'll be heard, and that if something on your account turns out to be wrong, correcting it can change the picture.
The fairness built in
Fair Fresh Start has a few protections baked in so the system stays fair to you.
Old feedback won't follow you past your course
If you complete a recovery course and then feedback arrives for a shift you worked before finishing that course, it won't count against your fresh start. The whole point of recovery is a clean step forward — you're not judged again on the behavior you already addressed.
Protection during the rollout
As Fair Fresh Start rolls out, longtime members are shielded from any sudden change in standing. If this applies to you, My Stats will show your protection and the dates involved. It's there to make the transition gentle.
The path back is always there
Across every state in this guide, the design is the same: see where you are, understand why, take the step in front of you, and rebuild. Here's that journey at a glance:
- Building history — Your first five temp shifts, finding your feet.
- Good standing (Active, Pro, Elite) — Reliability and feedback in good shape, full access.
- If things slip — Limited access — A narrower set of shifts while you steady out.
- A required course — A short, do-able step to get back on track.
- Restricted re-entry — Welcome back; access returns gradually as you rebuild.
- Back to good standing — Keep doing great work and your standing climbs again.
For recent grads, an on-a-break hold can add extra room before any review. Under review is reserved for the rare cases where recovery doesn't take hold.
If something looks wrong
Your standing is built from real facts — completed shifts, cancellations, and feedback from offices. Once in a while a fact can be recorded incorrectly, and that can affect your standing.
If your standing doesn't match your experience:
- Check My Stats first. It explains your current standing and the reason behind it, and often clears up the question on its own.
- Then reach out to support. Tell us what looks off and what you expected. If a fact on your account is wrong, we can look into correcting it — and once it's corrected, your standing is re-checked against the accurate picture.

Quick questions
Why am I suddenly seeing fewer shifts? This is often a limited-access or re-entry period working as intended — your bookable shifts are temporarily narrowed while you rebuild. Check My Stats to see whether a limit is in place and why. If My Stats shows no limit, it may simply be the usual availability in your area, and support can help you look closer.
I finished my course but I'm still blocked. What now? If you were assigned two courses, both need to be complete before access reopens. If you've finished everything assigned and still see a hold after a short wait, contact support so we can check that your completion was recorded correctly.
Does a required course mean I'm in trouble? No — it's the opposite. A course is the built-in way back. It's a short, clear step that moves you into restricted re-entry, where you start rebuilding your standing right away.
I can still see an old Job Board listing I applied to. Is that a mistake? That's expected. Even during a hold, you keep access to applications you'd already submitted. What's paused is applying to new listings.
Will old feedback drag down my fresh start after a course? No. Feedback tied to a shift you worked before finishing your course won't count against your fresh start. Recovery is meant to be a genuine clean step forward.
Can my standing improve again? Yes. Standing is designed to move with your track record. Keep completing shifts as committed and building positive experiences with offices, and your standing rebuilds over time.
