Welcome to the TempStars community! Our platform empowers dental professionals like you to take control of your career by choosing the shifts you want, at the rates you desire. Whether you're looking for full-time work or just occasional shifts, TempStars gives you the flexibility to thrive.
To ensure your success on our platform, we've compiled a comprehensive guide of seven crucial steps you should take before your first shift. Following these steps will help you make the most of your TempStars experience and set you up for a rewarding temping career.
1. Download the Mobile App
Staying connected is key to success on TempStars. Our mobile app sends real-time notifications about your offers, shifts, and in-app messages. To ensure you never miss an opportunity, download the app for your device:
- Android: TempStars on Google Play
- iPhone: TempStars on the App Store
2. Master the Art of Sending Offers
When you open the app, you'll notice green calendar dates indicating available shifts. Here's how to make your first offer:
- Select a shift that interests you.
- Choose your desired hourly rate.
- Send in your offer.
Remember, dental offices can view your profile and requested rate when considering your offer. To increase your chances of being booked:
- Upload a professional, comprehensive resume immediately.
- Keep in mind that most offices won't accept an offer without reviewing a resume first.
Important notes:
- Offers remain active for 18 hours before expiring.
- You can remove an active offer at any time without penalty.
- You'll receive a notification and confirmation email when an offer is accepted.
3. Understand Hourly Rates
At TempStars, we believe in a fair, two-sided marketplace. Here's what you need to know about setting your rates:
- Dental offices can "propose" a rate they consider fair for each shift.
- You'll see this recommendation in the Rate Scroller when creating your offer.
- You have the freedom to choose a different rate if you prefer.
We encourage you to consider the recommended rate, but ultimately, the decision is yours.
4. Prepare for a Successful Shift
Based on feedback from thousands of successful temping shifts, here are our top tips for a great day:
-
Understand the Start Time:
- The posted Start Time on TempStars is when you're expected to be at the office, changed into scrubs, and ready to start clinical work.
- Plan your arrival accordingly to ensure you're fully prepared at the posted start time.
-
Arrive Early: Show up 15-20 minutes before the posted Start Time. This extra time allows you to:
- Locate the office (especially important for new locations)
- Change into your work attire
- Introduce yourself to the team
- Familiarize yourself with the office layout
- Complete any necessary paperwork
-
Ask Questions: Don't hesitate to seek clarification. The office staff wants you to succeed, so ask about:
- Equipment locations and operation
- Office-specific procedures and protocols
- Patient schedules and any special notes
- Sterilization processes
- Emergency protocols
-
Be Prepared: Bring any personal items you might need, such as:
- Your own pressed and clean scrubs (unless otherwise specified by the office)
- Comfortable shoes
- Any personal protective equipment (PPE) you prefer to use
- A water bottle and snacks for breaks
-
Invoice Accurately: Ensure your invoice reflects your actual hours worked, including:
- The correct start and end times
- Any lunch or other breaks taken
- Accurate invoicing helps expedite your payment and maintains a professional relationship with the office
5. Understand Payment Processes
Getting paid promptly is crucial. Here's what you need to know:
- Each shift lists its specific Payment Terms, detailing when you can expect payment.
- Offices typically pay through one of three methods:
- Electronic Transfer
- Pay Now (TempStars' payment system)
- Cheque
Pro Tip: Invoice immediately after your shift to avoid payment delays. It's also wise to discuss payment methods with the office manager or owner at the beginning of your shift.
6. Utilize In-App Messaging
Our in-app messaging feature facilitates clear communication:
- Click on a booked shift in the app.
- Select "View/Send Messages."
- Use this feature to ask any questions about the upcoming shift.
This direct line of communication helps ensure you're well-prepared for each assignment.
7. Master the Invoicing Process
Proper invoicing is key to timely payment:
- After completing your shift, mark it as "Completed" in the app (or wait for the system to do this automatically overnight).
- You'll be prompted to rate the office and create an invoice.
- The system will email a copy of the invoice to both you and the dental office.
Important: Keep your invoice copy for your records. The dental office is responsible for paying you directly based on this invoice.
By following these seven steps, you'll be well-prepared to start your TempStars journey. Remember, our support team is always here to help if you have any questions or concerns. Welcome aboard, and here's to your success in the world of dental temping!
