While TempStars facilitates connections, we do not operate in any capacity as an "agency."
We Don't:
- "send" anyone to shifts,
- offer any kind of assurance that shifts can or will be booked,
- collect any fee from anyone looking to get connected for work.
Keep in mind that from an employment, legal, and tax standpoint, your employment relationship is with the dental office(s) where you have worked or completed your shift.
Most offices consider temporary dental staff as "independent contractors", which means in that capacity you are self-employed for that shift - responsible for submitting taxes and records for income earned.
There are some offices that consider temporary dental staff as "temporary employees", even if it's for just one shift. In those cases, the office will ask you for your SIN and contact information, will issue you payment (usually with tax withholdings), and send out a T4 to you at tax time.
What this means is that TempStars doesn't keep any payment, employment, or other records related to your shifts, income earned, or taxes.
We don't issue T4's at tax time because dental hygienists/assistants are not employed by TempStars.
Invoicing and your Records:
If you use TempStars invoicing system, when you send an invoice to an office, you are e-mailed a copy of this invoice for your records. Keep track of these e-mails because we don't keep those records in our system, and they'll be useful in doing your taxes.
We are not accountants or tax experts, so it's best to seek professional independent legal or tax advice for any clarification.
But as always, we're happy to help so get in touch with us via our Help Centre contact form if you have any questions!
