At TempStars, we understand that schedules can sometimes change. This guide will help you navigate situations where a dental office needs to modify the hours of a booked and confirmed temping shift.
Notification of Changes
When an office changes the times of a shift, you'll be notified in two ways:
- Via email
- Through text notifications (ensure you have the TempStars app installed to receive these)
Important: Always let us know what's going on so we can help sort things out!
Types of Shift Hour Changes
1. Changes Before the Shift Starts
When a dental office changes the shift hours before the shift begins, you have two options:
A. New Hours are Acceptable
If the new hours work for you, you don't need to take any action. The shift will proceed with the updated hours.
B. New Hours are Not Acceptable
If the new hours don't work for you, follow these steps:
- Don't cancel the shift immediately
- Notify us right away through your TempStars profile or at help@tempstars.com
- We'll help you sort it out:
- In most cases, the office would prefer to revert to the original hours rather than have you cancel the shift
- If they can't or won't change the hours back:
- We'll cancel the shift for you without any penalty
- If the office significantly shortens the shift hours within 24 hours of the shift start time:
- You may be eligible for compensation according to our Short Notice Cancellation Policy
2. Changes at the End of Your Shift
Sometimes, changes happen at the end of the day due to patient cancellations. While rare, here's how to handle this situation:
- Compensation Rule: The office must compensate you for 50% of the reduced time
-
Invoicing Example:
- Original end time: 8:00 PM
- New end time due to cancellations: 5:00 PM
- Difference: 3 hours
- Compensation time: 1.5 hours (50% of 3 hours)
- Adjusted end time for invoice: 6:30 PM (5:00 PM + 1.5 hours)
Note: Remember to subtract your usual lunch break (e.g., 30 minutes) from this calculation if applicable.
Best Practices
- Communication is Key: Always discuss changes with the office manager or dentist before leaving early
- Flexibility: Some offices may prefer to keep you on-site helping the team if they're paying for the time, while others may send you home
- Documentation: Keep a record of any shift changes for your own reference
- Seek Support: If you're unsure about how to handle a particular situation, don't hesitate to contact TempStars support
