Understanding Your Cancellation Responsibilities
As a dental office using TempStars, there are specific policies in place regarding shift cancellations. These policies are designed to maintain fairness and reliability within our temping ecosystem.
Cancellation Timeframes and Compensation
Regular Cancellations (More than 24 Hours' Notice)
If you cancel a shift with more than 24 hours' notice before the scheduled start time:
- No compensation is required to be paid to the Talent
- The cancellation will not negatively affect the Talent's reliability score
- The Talent will receive an automatic notification about the cancellation
- The shift will be removed from both your and the Talent's schedule
Short Notice Cancellations (SNC)
If you cancel a shift with less than 24 hours' notice before the scheduled start time:
- You are required to provide compensation to the Talent
- The compensation amount is 50% of the shift's value minus 30 minutes
- Example: For a 7-hour shift at $60/hour, compensation would be: (7 hours × $60 × 50%) - (30 min × $60/hour × 50%) = $195
- You should provide a cancellation reason through the platform
- Payment for this compensation follows the same timeline as your regular payment terms
How to Cancel a Shift
- Log into your TempStars account
- Navigate to "My Shifts" > "Upcoming"
- Select the shift you need to cancel
- Click "Cancel Shift"
- Provide a reason for the cancellation
- Confirm your cancellation
Severe Weather Exceptions
Cancellations due to severe weather are exempt from the standard cancellation policies:
- You are not obligated to pay Short Notice Cancellation compensation for cancellations due to office closure or patient cancellations resulting from severe weather
- TempStars uses objective national weather alerts and public service announcements to determine qualifying weather events
- If cancelling due to severe weather, please note this in your cancellation reason
Modifying Shifts Instead of Cancelling
If your schedule changes but you still need coverage:
- Consider modifying the shift times instead of cancelling completely
- Once a Talent has accepted a booking, changes to the hourly rate are not permitted
- If you need to change the hours, the Talent must agree to the modified schedule
- If the Talent declines the changed hours, you can either:
- Revert to the original hours to preserve the shift
- Cancel the shift (SNC penalties may apply if within 24 hours)
