We understand that it may be nerve racking newly starting on our APP and it may take a short time to learn all about our features.
It's very important to us to see all our members succeed and we ensure do this by providing you with all the resources we can to make this happen!
We've complied the most commonly asked questions that members might have when going to any shift for the first time or after taking a break from our service.
And if there's anything we missed here don't be shy to reach out to our Member Success Support team to help find those answers, we're happy to help!
When you place your offer for a shift, the details would have included the “payment term” for that shift.
The "payment term" can be one of these:
- 24 business hours
- 2 week term
- 1 month term
As an independent contractor using our platform to find work in any office, all payment arrangements are made directly between you and the office and we have no way of knowing those.
Be sure to provide all the info the office requests BEFORE leaving the shift that day. This avoids any delays in receiving payment.
The office posting the shift decides the "payment term" for the shift and also decides how they will issue their payment. Our member offices are excellent at making these on time:)
Creating your invoice right away is very important and be sure that all the information is accurate and you’ve accounted for your lunch break.
This avoids disputes and delays and most offices track your arrival and end time accurately.
If you have questions about the hours to bill or that where posted please message our support team right away or you ask the manager/dentist while you’re at the shift.
Video here #AskHolly Video on how to invoice right through our app!
Most offices have 1 person assigned to review what you will be doing that day so you’ll know where instruments are kept and the room you’ll be working in etc.
We also have a messaging/chat feature where you can reach out to the office to ask questions or if there are special instructions prior to the shift beginning - it’s a really good way to be prepared for that shift!
YES!
As a hygienist when you work in an office full/part time, that office is required to have your license/certificate on file before working on any patients.
As such, when you work as an independent contractor and travel from office to office, the office may be requesting a copy for their records.
As an assistant, same applies, when you work in an office full/time, that office is required to have your certificate showing you do those duties of level 1 or 2 and have a copy of your HARP on file before working on any patients in their office.
While temping and working as an independent contractor, and having to take x-rays for this shift, offices should be requesting your HARP certificate or a copy before you actually do those duties in their office.
You may want to have a copy of your card for them prior to getting there and proactively provide it at the start of your shift.
Arrival time special note- about the start time means being parked, changed and ready to go at that time so give yourself enough time to do that

Having your resume uploaded is super important and makes a difference when submitting offers. An office does review your resume to see if you’ll be a fit for the office and their team before accepting it.
They also post with a recommended/suggested rate giving you an idea of where their comfort range is for the hourly rate, so keep that in mind when making your offer:).
As a new member, you can submit up to 5 offers and as you complete the shifts and get great feedback that number will increase on its own!
As a new member you have 5 max booking as a limit of how many shift offers you can make.
As you complete these shifts and get great feedback that increase your limit for booking shifts:)
We do collect data to monitor for trends and patterns in cancelations and feedback and it's how we develop a track record and history for you and all our members:)
So it's important to keep your account membership in good standing to keep it active!

Have the contact name of the person for this shift readily available! This is who you would ask for help once you arrive to the shift.
Most offices have 1 person assigned to review this with you so you know where instruments are and the room you’ll be working in.
We also have a messaging/chat feature where you can reach out to the office to ask questions or if there are special instructions prior to the shift beginning - its a really good way to be prepared at the shift!
If the office sent you a document to read please do so, they have important information there for you to read so that you're ready for that shift.
Most offices have 1 person assigned to review this with you so you know where instruments are and the room you’ll be working in.
We also have a messaging/chat feature where you can reach out to the office to ask questions or if there are special instructions prior to the shift beginning - its a really good way to be prepared at the shift!
Most offices do have a “standing order” especially if its a large office with varying office hours.
And shift dates that occur on Saturday or Sunday may NOT have a DDS and that is where they would have a "standing order" clause but always good to ask before the shift date!
If the office included a special document for you to be prepared for this shift. Anything they mentioned in this document could include:.
- Bring a Copy of your RDH license card/ HARP certification
- Knowing the payment terms- have a void cheque readily available in case they need one
- Your scrubs, cap, & clinical shoes to change into. Its a good idea to leave any personal belongs such as jewelry at home to avoid losing anything important
- If you have special eyewear or face shield that you prefer to wear or travel with, bring it!
Getting familiar with the area and traffic is important to ensure you get to the shift in sufficient time to be on time!
Using the messaging/chat feature with the office and contact person will also help you figure out the best options for you but don’t wait until the last minute, be prepared!
So we’ve made it super convenient for you to use our app and create your invoice from your app and submit it to the office. This will also send you a copy to your email for your records.
As an independent contractor, its up to you to monitor and track your invoices and payments. It's a really good idea to use the notes section in the invoice to add your notes about what you left behind, with who, and how they will send your payment.
For example, if an office requested void cheque and will send me an cheque via mail or the office hands you a cheque with # 001 for the total upon leaving the shift
When you followup on any invoice you’ll see this note and that will help you remember those fine details:)
The invoice copy when sent goes to the contact person and avoids searching for someone at the end of the shift to hand it to anyone.
In the case that you create your own invoices using a separate app or software tool then ask for an envelope and place it inside and seal it, and leave it with the person typically at the front to give to the manager or dentist.
Now some offices may have you fill out a form and this is completely ok and they may also want an invoice for a hard copy.
Remember this information is sensitive and should never be left out for other staff members to see - it's private and confidential between you and the office manager/Dentist.
We collect and monitor trends for feedback and cancellations and this is how we develop a track record and history for you and it's reviewed every day!
You currently can only book 1 shift at a time and once its completed you can book the next one.
So its very important that you keep your accounting in good standing.
You can read more about it here and how it all works Membership Status flowchart

As you know, we take every booking commitment very seriously.
So when you book a shift with an office, the office, their team and their patients are counting on you to keep your commitment, and you have given your word to keep your shift.
The entire community of TempStars members who trust and rely on us to provide consistent, reliable, professional matches depends on keeping commitments.
If something happens that makes it impossible for you to keep your booking commitment, there is a “Cancel Shift” button at the bottom of the page, when you click on the booked shift date.
Please ensure that you cancel the shift so the office has a chance to find a replacement.
As you know, it can be disastrous for an office to see a short notice cancellation when they already booked and confirmed all the patients for that day.
